Mainstage Center for the Arts’ Cinderella, Getting to Know Adaption, Teaches that Dreams Can Come True

“Impossible things are happening every day!” sings the Godmother in Cinderella. And, seemingly impossible things like mice turning into humans, a pumpkin becoming a carriage, and a tattered dress transforming into a beautiful ball gown all occur in this beloved fairytale. This shortened adaption of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella captures the magic and whimsy of their original, in a length perfect for young audience members. Summer Stage Children’s Theatre presents this production on July 17-19, 2019, at Camden County College, in Blackwood, NJ.

Blackwood, NJ, July 15, 2019 /PressReleasePing/ – In this classic tale, Cinderella (Shannon Enright of Glassboro) lives as a servant to her stepmother (Emily Williams of Gloucester Township) and her two stepsisters, Portia (Krista Murray of Deptford) and Joy (Angelina Canavan). She dreams of attending the ball that the King and Queen (Jared Colan and Breanna Koch) are throwing for their son (Frank Testa of Blackwood), a prince in need of a bride. With help from her Godmother (Jade Wesley of Glassboro), Cinderella’s dreams are brought to reality. Additional characters include the Herald (Ciera Shea of Williamstown) and the Chef (Abigail Tacka of Sewell).

“I’m so excited to portray Cinderella. I have always loved the show,” said Enright. “It’s a beautiful production and we’ve got such a great cast. Everyone has really pulled together and there’s so much positive energy in rehearsals.”

Testa added, “This was my grandmother’s favorite show. She especially loved Prince Charming and I’m dedicating my performance to her.”

Originally presented on CBS in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in television history, watched by 107 million people.
Summer Stage’s Cinderella, Getting to Know adaption is directed by Anthony Magnotta of Runnemede. Kaitlyn Fanelli and Rachel Maselek as Assistant Directors and Madison Maiorini is interning with the team.

“As someone who grew up and obsessed over the 1997 movie version of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella starring recording artist Brandy and the late icon Whitney Houston, I’m very excited to be taking on this show! It’s such a timeless production, especially the music,” said Magnotta. “Also, I have a fun history with Cinderella as it was one of the first productions I performed as a Summer stage camper back in 2008. I was a featured dancer and was part of the transformation.”

In this year’s production, Wesley is excited about making the transformation happen as the Fairy Godmother. “I love helping people and this role really gives me a chance to be myself. It’s my last year as a camper since I’m entering 12th grade so this is a special production for me.”

Memorable musical numbers including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible,” “A Lovely Night,” and “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?” add to the charm of this production.

Cinderella runs July 17 & 18, 7:30 pm, and July 19, 10:30 am, in the newly-renovated, fully accessible Dennis Flyer Theatre, Lincoln Hall, Camden County College. Tickets are $11 for children/senior citizens and $12 for adults. Group tickets are also available.
